  • The Facts:  BLOOM: A Journey to Self-Love, Poetry and Prose by Brittany Traveste, Cover Art Alvin Epps, Interior Art by Jade Meyers, published 2017 USA, TQP Press, 78 pages, ISBN-978-0-692-82922-6 (Pbk)

  • The Review:  Bloom is the amazing journey of growth, self-discovery, and going through the motions and the required steps to arrive at the beautiful notion of self-love.  Bloom takes you through the phases from hiding your true self from yourself, and others, to finding your way onto the path that leads you to forgiveness, acceptance, valuing and prioritizing oneself, learning to move on from hurt and pain, to finding your light, joy, and happiness in the form of self-love.

  • Reading this book in addition to being beautifully written and illustrated is also in many ways therapeutic in that we are all always on the path from Seed to Bloom.  Sometimes we even go the wrong way, and Bloom reminds us that there is always a way to get back on the path and that there is healing and growth in every experience, even the painful ones.  A reminder that many of us need at any time but especially during the darker periods.

  • Bloom is written in a relatable and tangible way and you can easily see yourself or your friend going through some of the scenarios outlined in the book.  The author’s honesty and rawness is also very refreshing in that you know she is writing about her journey and her truth, which as you continue turning the pages you quickly realize are your truths too.
