  • The Facts:  Bright & the Bully by T. W. Bright, illustrated by Mbekurius, published in the USA 2017 by 215 Publishing, 26 pages, ISBN 978-0999626603.

  • Summary:  Bright & the Bully is the story of how one boy teaches his classmates to deal with being bullied and turns the entire concept of bullying on its head by preaching love and understanding instead of teaching “revenge/vengeance or eye-for-an-eye theories” or the standard go tell an adult. This book is ideal for independent readers aged 8-12 years old, and it could easily be read to younger children as a bed time story.

  • The Review: This book came right on time for us.  My children thankfully aren’t bullied but there have been occasions where things have been said or done at school and in some cases my children felt uncertain about how best to respond.  While the protective mother in me wants to say, defend yourself if something is said or done to you, reciprocate in kind.  While in some cases this is a good response, there is always a higher road that can be taken, and this book teaches that lesson.  If my children face a scenario like that presented in the book, I want them to have fully array of potential responses available to them and this book teaches the best response possible.  Bottom Line:  Great read, great lesson.
