The Joys of Jellystone

The first thing that strikes you once you pass the gate to Jellystone Park in Williamsport, MD (close to Hagerstown) or Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park is the idyllic setting. You feel transported to a time of log cabins similar to prefab log cabins, woods, lakes, barbecues, family, friends, slow summer days and good times. Who doesn’t love to spend their time in log cabins? I’ve always wanted to live in one, ever since I visited a friend in her luxury log cabin home in the country. There is just something about one that changes my mood, and being in the Jellystone Park surrounded by them just makes me want to buy one so much more – and it’s even easier than ever to get one these days thanks to the various pre built cabin options available. I may have a look at some when we get home, but for now, I’m going to enjoy my time here. The exciting thing however is not only the feelings the setting makes you feel but the fact that it is all backed by an official resort infrastructure.

There are organized activities, pools, playgrounds, nature and biking trails, laser tag, pedal karts, a jumping pillow, basketball court, outdoor movie screens, a game room, an indoor ninja obstacle course, an 18-hole miniature golf course, a centrally located camp/convenient store and much more.

Within minutes of our arrival our kids were on the playground and immediately made friends. There are kids everywhere, it is extremely pet friendly, in that there were dogs everywhere (there is even a doggie park on the premises) and we saw a cute pot-bellied pig. The presence of pets makes the park feel even more like a community.

Though we visited Jellystone in an RV, the park offers a variety of housing accommodations from tent camping, to scaled cabins ranging from basic to premium models. I think the best (and my favorite) way to visit Jellystone is via RV. That way you can truly enjoy the parks fully loaded (all RV sites offer water, sewer, and cable hook ups) and ideally located within the park RV campgrounds.

Another interesting fact that should make you feel happy is the fact that there are currently 79 licensed Jellystone campgrounds located in 30 states and three provinces. All campgrounds are themed with Yogi Bear elements and all offer a little something unique based on their location.

Each year an estimated 2 million campers visit a Jellystone Park Camp-Resort and that number is rising. We loved our experience so much, we are already planning a return visit next summer. To learn more, visit: https://www.campjellystone.com/park/29-hagerstown-williamsport/.
